It’s been about six months since I’ve blogged here! Which isn’t much good at all, really. About all I can say in my defence is that I’ve been busy… And so, the news in brief:
– I went to FantasyCon, which was excellent fun. Chester is a beautiful city and I managed to get away in the Saturday to take a quick look around. Anna Stephens and I visited Chester Cathedral, which is as Peter McClean accurately described it, about as Warhammer 40,000 as you can get in this millennium. The panels at FantasyCon that I was a part of were fun to take part in, and the ones I attended were very interesting.
– I finished my first Warhammer 40,000 novel! It’s called ‘Rites Of Passage’, it’s about Navigators (which is great, since they haven’t been covered much in Black Library fiction before now), and it should be out in the latter half of this year, I think. I’ve also seen the early versions of the cover art, and it looks both spectacular, and really distinctive.
– My first Black Library novella, ‘Wanted: Dead’ came out, and I’ve been really pleased with the reception it’s got. I’ve seen a lot of people very happy with the presence of a queer main character in Black Library fiction.
– I’m currently writing my second Black Library novel, too!
– I’ve finished (after the most extensive editing process for anything I’ve ever written, pretty much) a fantasy novel I’ve been writing for some time now. It started as something to do in-between other commitments, and then turned into my next big project. It’s now out on submission, so we’ll just have to see whether anyone wants a low-magic fantasy novel about different peoples learning to come together and respect each others’ differences while being threatened by the violent impulses of others.
As for the future… well, I’ll be at EasterCon in a couple of weeks, at least on the Friday and Saturday. I’ll be leaving at some point on the Sunday, sadly, as I need some time to recover before heading back to the day job on the Tuesday… Give me a shout if you’re going to be there!
Have you plans for a fourth Keiko novel? Please please please! Superb writing, especially your female characters. Well, especially all of them…..
I’d been hoping to address this in a future blog post, but things have dragged on and dragged on…
Long story short: not right now. Things have changed, I’ve changed, and the story I had intended to tell is not necessarily the one I’d choose to tell now. There are other factors too, which I WILL expand on once I’m actually allowed to do so…
